This notice explains how NorthScope News, a Talk Alice publication, uses information for The NorthScope Brief and its signup forms.
What the newsletter system records
We collect the email address you enter, your subscription status and records of your signup and confirmation. The newsletter system also records the IP address associated with a signup to help manage consent and prevent abuse. Name fields are not required on our signup forms.
How it is used
We use this information to send the weekly Brief, confirm subscriptions, manage unsubscribe requests, investigate delivery problems and protect the signup form from misuse. You must confirm your email address before receiving newsletters.
Delivery and measurement
Our newsletter list is managed in WordPress using The Newsletter Plugin. Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) sends the emails; FluentSMTP records delivery activity, with automatic email-log deletion set to 14 days. These services process information needed to operate and deliver the newsletter.
Newsletter tracking is enabled by default. Emails may include a small image that records opens and links that record clicks. These signals can be affected by email-app privacy features and do not always reflect a person reading a message. Visits to our website, including visits from newsletters, may also be measured by Google Analytics and WordPress/Jetpack.
Cookies and signup prompts
Signup prompts may use a cookie to remember when a prompt has appeared or been dismissed, so it does not keep interrupting your visit. Newsletter subscription and management features may also use cookies. You can manage cookies through your browser settings.
Your choices
Use the unsubscribe link in a newsletter to stop future issues. Unsubscribing does not automatically erase your subscription record: a minimal record can remain to help us respect your opt-out and avoid sending again. To ask about access, correction or deletion of your newsletter information, email hello@northscopenews.com. Some delivery and consent records may need to be retained to resolve problems or meet applicable obligations.
