NorthScope News aims to correct factual errors promptly and transparently. Readers should be able to understand when an article changes and why.
Report a possible error
Use our contact page and begin your message with “Correction request.” Include the article’s URL and headline, the statement you believe is wrong, the proposed correction and any documents or other evidence that support it.
Provide a reply email if you want to be contacted about the request. Avoid sending unnecessary personal information, passwords or confidential documents.
How a request is reviewed
The publisher or responsible editor should check the disputed statement against the available evidence, seek further information where needed and determine whether the article needs a correction, clarification or update. A disagreement with an article’s conclusion is not automatically evidence of a factual error.
How changes are recorded
A substantive factual correction should appear in a dated note on the article, explaining the error and what has changed. A clarification should explain information that was incomplete or ambiguous. Minor spelling or formatting fixes that do not change meaning do not require a correction note.
If a headline, graphic or image caption contains a substantive error, the correction should identify it. A change should not conceal the original nature of a significant mistake.
Developing stories
New information can change a story without making the earlier account erroneous. Label such additions as updates and distinguish them from corrections. Keep publication and update dates accurate, and identify unresolved uncertainty.
Further concerns
If you believe an issue remains unresolved, reply with the article link and any additional evidence. Our editorial standards explain the sourcing and transparency requirements applied to our work.
